It was a cold and snowy day, but we were thankful for it. Living in the snow belt of CNY, we love the covering of purity it brings to the dark, dead earth. Though it may be difficult to plan our schedules around, its beauty is longed for this time of year. This was this issue Miss Jenn was facing. She was almost 34 weeks pregnant, and we were waiting on a snowstorm to create a natural backdrop for her CNY Maternity Photography session.

And then one morning, I awoke to a beautiful, fresh covering of snow. And when it snows at my place, my fir trees look more majestic with the snow blanketing their branches. I quickly snapped a cell shot and texted it to Jenn. Today was the day.

Jenn is a planner and now everything was falling into place. She had two cute outfits, one casual and a pretty dress to wear. She dressed her husband to compliment both her outfits and we captured them out in the snow, and boy it was cold! As she shivered between takes, she would audibly remind herself, “worth it!”.

And yes, capturing your maternity journey is ‘worth it’. Every pregnancy is different for every mom-to-be. But one of the common factors, is we do not always feel our best. So, dressing yourself up in something flattering and having your hair done is so ‘worth it’ to remember your journey and all the work you put into your pregnancy.

CNY Maternity sessions can be on locations or in studio. I encourage dad and any other children to participate though the focus is always on the mom-to-be. In my client closet, I have several dresses available to wear for the maternity session, so you don’t have to spend extra money on an outfit. I encourage maternity sessions to be captured within the 30-34 week mark, when mama’s belly is defined yet she is not too uncomfortable to stand and pose for the portraits.
