I love it when a mom knows what she wants in her newborn session. Knox’s mom had all her ducks in a row when she called me to book her CNY Newborn Photography session. She was still expecting for a few more weeks, but she knew if she booked ahead, she wouldn’t have to worry about trying to schedule at the last minute after he arrived. She also knew that she wanted her little boy to match his daddy for the session. His father is a local hero who works as a NY State Trooper. Little Knox had a sweet trooper outfit that worked so well for the session. I loved posing both dad and Knox together. Daddy poses are already my favorite to capture, but these two made them more special.
When in my newborn sessions, I have a particular workflow that I follow to provide my clients with custom portraits. I love to start with parent poses, capture the full family, any siblings, and then move on to floor props. With this part of the session, I include up to two props (unless I am pulling out the moon or the carriage), which may be a bucket, bowl, barrel, beds, my cast iron bench, wagons, sled, wheelbarrow and more. Unless requested, I rotate through my props, so you won’t see them frequently throughout all my upcoming newborn sessions. After wrapping up my props, I unfold my beanbag that is pre-setup to the colors you would of requested and start posing on there. My bean bag is built with a rigid front wall to help keep the baby from rolling off due to the pressure of the weight on top! It is big enough to handle quads but is only used for newborns up to 2-month-old. All in all, my newborn session will take 2-3 hours to complete, depending on how well your baby will sleep.
