I had a run of newborn boys in August that overflowed into September. Grant came to see me in my home studio at just 12 days new. Grant’s session was an incredibly special one, for a few reasons. First, my mother-in-law assisted me in my session. Grant’s daddy and my mother-in-law had worked together for many years and she was invited to come meet the new baby in my studio prior to the session starting. I know she hadn’t intended to stay the whole 3 hours, but my assistant couldn’t make it, so, I figured mom could receive some on the job training, and see for herself the full behind the scenes of what I do on the job. And being an assistant has it perks, including snuggling a newborn while I reset the studio for the next phase. Best. Job. Ever!

The second factor that made this session awesome, was this was the second time I have had the honor to capture this family’s newborn. This is such a compliment to me! Newborn photography requires trust. You would not hand your tiny newborn that you spent 9 months creating over to just anybody. I have poured the last 4 years into training and improving my newborn posing and safety skills to offer the best for my tiny clients. Grant’s big sister Clare came to me almost 2 years before for her newborn debut.
And finally, every newborn has its own story to tell, and it is my job to illustrate it. I love to hear parents share their journey of their baby. They all have a unique story from the pregnancy to the delivery room. And it doesn’t stop there. Even though the baby is just a few days old, mom and dad already know what they prefer, whether they want to be snuggled tight or would rather go free styling. Do they prefer the binky or will they spit it back out and so much more! I learn so much about my clients in my newborn sessions that it truly is an honor to capture them and call them my friends.
